Say Goodbye to Credit Card Debt and Medical Bills
Since the bankruptcy laws were changed in 2005, there has been a lot of confusion about bankruptcy. Contrary to what you may have heard, you may still be able to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy to discharge credit card debt and medical bills.
To be eligible for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, you must meet an economic means test and participate in credit counseling. However, most of the clients who contact our firm are pleasantly surprised to discover that they are eligible for bankruptcy relief. Even those clients who are not eligible for Chapter 7 relief are typically eligible for Chapter 13 bankruptcy relief.
Chapter 7 Versus Chapter 13 Bankruptcy
With a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, you can discharge (eliminate) unsecured debt like credit card debts and medical bills. With a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you repay your debts through a repayment plan. In a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you gain additional time to pay your debts, avoid creditor harassment and may be able to eventually discharge a portion of your debts (including credit card debt, medical debt and other unsecured debts).
